  • Cinnamon

Garnish idea: fresh fruit (apple slices, orange slices, or various holiday favorites) and, if you’re feeling extra, a caramel rim (hello paleo caramel!).

How To Make Apple Cider Sangria Recipe

We’re not lying when we say sangria is easy to make! All you do is mix together all of the ingredients, stir, and then let sit for anywhere from 2 to 24 hours.

  • In a large pitcher, combine the wine, apple cider, vodka (if using), chopped apples, orange slices, pomegranate seeds, honey (or maple), ground cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, and fresh ginger.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours — this lets all the flavors meld and chill. For the best flavor, you can prep it up to 24 hours in advance.
  • When you’re ready to serve: add the carbonated water (club soda) for a bit of sparkle. Serve over ice, with extra fruit floating in, and enjoy!

Want a Mocktail Version?

Absolutely! Don’t miss out on sipping this perfect fall cocktail. Skip the wine and vodka. Instead, swap in half extra carbonated water and half fresh-squeezed orange juice. You’ll still get the flavor, the fun, the festive look — and everyone can enjoy it.

Pro Tips & Variations

Make ahead = stress-free entertaining. The longer this sits (up to 24 hours), the more the fruit infuses and the more flavor you’ll have.

Chill well before adding the club soda so the drink stays bright and crisp.

Garnish glow-up: Add fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme for a fragrant, visual punch.

Warm it up: On a cool evening, skip the ice, warm the cider slightly, and float the warm sangria for a cozy twist.

Swap your base wine: If you like something a little richer, try a Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or a light sparkling wine — it’ll change the profile but stay in the same cozy lane.

FAQ’s:

Can I make this without alcohol?

Yes! See the mocktail version above — it’s festive, flavor-packed, and totally inclusive.

How long will it keep?

If kept refrigerated, it’s best within 24 hours. The fruit continues to infuse the longer it sits, but after about a day the carbonation gets a little softer, so I recommend serving sooner rather than later.

Can I use frozen fruit instead of fresh?

Sure — frozen berries or cranberries can step in nicely. Just thaw slightly so they release some flavor and don’t water down your sangria.

What are the best apples to use in this recipe?

Honeycrisp apples: Crisp, juicy, and sweet — they hold their texture beautifully and make the sangria extra refreshing. Granny Smith: Tart and firm, these balance out the sweetness from cider and fruit for that perfect tangy bite. Fuji or Gala: Naturally sweet, with a lovely crunch — great if you prefer a slightly softer flavor profile. Finally, Pink Lady (aka Cripps Pink): A great middle ground between sweet and tart; they add bright color and crisp texture.

Can I double the recipe for a crowd?

Yes! This recipe doubles beautifully. Just use a large pitcher or beverage dispenser and keep extra chilled in the fridge until ready to serve.

Final Notes

There you have it — a crisp, flavorful, make-ahead sangria that nails the feel of fall. Whether you’re welcoming friends, hosting a brunch, or just looking for the perfect evening sipper, keep this in your arsenal. Cheers to good friends, cozy fall nights & effortless entertaining. 🍂🍎

Notes

The longer it sits, the better! Make at least two before serving, or up to 24 and let it sit in the fridge.
There are many gluten-free vodkas out there, my two favorite are Ciroc Vodka and Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Tequila and rum are generally naturally gluten-free. Read labels and be cautious of added flavors.

  1. That must be really good! I wish I could find apple cider around here to try this! I’ll save the recipes in my favourites just in case! Thanks!

  2. Hey Lexi, honestly I’m kind of disappointed in the quality of this beverage. Certainly potable, but I don’t know that I would consider it to be palatable.

  3. You left the wine and cider out of the instructions, but I assume you just add them in at the end. I’m thinking the vodka may be unnecessary since it’s not used in regular sangria.

  4. I’m sure you are a very lovely lady… you have a beautiful website… but I have to say… I spent a long time making this (I even made homemade apple cider) and used only the best ingredients and it was not very good. Waaay too much vodka. Sorry. I felt it was a waste of time and effort.

  5. Lexi! Your website is amazing. Help me out with something? Do you think the cider would be good with another liquor other than vodka? You mentioned tequila and rum, but I can’t imagine it… especially tequila. Could you double the wine?

    1. Hi Nicole!! Thank you!

No, not tequila! Was just noting that tequilas are generally gluten-free. Light rum is often used in sangria, but I prefer vodka in this one. I think adding more wine would be fine, maybe an additional cup 🙂

  6. What a great drink!! Great combo of refreshing and light….. Like a hint of summer, but great seasonal taste and fit for Thanksgiving and the fall. Was so delicious and festive too. Thanks!

  7. I made this for a “friendsgiving” pot luck I hosted so we had something other than just wine and beer. Although I made it for the girls, it ended up being a hit with everyone! I tripled the recipe too! So there was plenty of very tasty drinks that made dinner even more interesting! I definitely recommend.

  8. Thank you for this recipe….it sounds amazing! and it doesn’t have as many calories and bad things in it as many other drinks out there. Going to buy the stuff tonight to make it for this weekend and for Thanksgiving! Thanks again
