These Hot Oil Chili Noodles are a TikTok trending, 15 minute recipe, inspired by the Chinese dish You Po Mian. It’s made up of cooked rice noodles tossed in an herb-packed, spicy hot oil sauce that you will just love.
Amazing Chili Oil Noodles
These Chili Noodles have been a recent trend on both Tiktok and Instagram and I love it! They’re inspired by a Chinese dish called You Po Mian that consists of cooked noodles tossed in a spicy sauce with sizzling oil.
Po mian literally means oil sprinkled noodles! The sauce is made with hot oil that’s poured over a mix of aromatics and spices to release their flavor. It’s finished out with coconut aminos (or soy sauce) and rice vinegar for a little bit of extra flavor, then it’s ready to go!
This spicy noodle dish is packed full of flavor, ready in minutes, and we cannot stop making it!
Ingredients Needed:
- Garlic: use fresh garlic for the best flavor! We love this extra garlicky, but adjust as desired.
- Chili Flakes: you can use red pepper chili flakes or Korean chili flakes! Keep in mind this is a spicy noodle dish.
- Cayenne Pepper and Cracked Black Pepper: we’re using just a couple more seasonings to take the heat up another notch.
- Coconut Aminos and Seasoned Rice Vinegar: gives our noodles tangy, salty, umami flavors.
- Garnishes: we’re adding a bit of color and freshness with chopped scallions, parsley, and cilantro.
- Avocado Oil: other types of cooking oil will work, but my favorite is avocado oil.
- Noodles: you’ll need 6-8 ounces of cooked gluten-free noodles. We used rice ramen noodles and Jovial egg noodles.
How to Make Chili Noodles
These chili oil noodles take bascially as long as it takes to boil your pasta! So quick, so easy, and so good!
- Prep the aromatics and seasonings: Add the scallions and garlic to a bowl along with the chili flakes, cayenne pepper, and cracked black pepper. Add in the coconut aminos and rice vinegar.
- Cook the noodles: Boil 6-8 ounces of the noodles of your choice according to package directions.
- Heat the oil and combine: Heat the oil in a skillet until simmering, then pour into the bowl with the aromatics and seasonings.
- Add the noodles: Stir the noodles into the sauce, stir until fully coated, then serve.
What Noodles to Use
Really any gluten-free noodles, or noodles, will work for this recipe! I’ve used both rice ramen noodles and Jovial egg noodles and they work great. I love the egg noodles the most here.
If you’re not trying to keep this dish gluten-free, you can also use udon noodles or even just regular old spaghetti noodles.
Tips and Notes for Chili Noodles
- Time it right. If you’re serving your chili oil noodles hot, try to time it so the noodles and sauce are done at the same time. That way you can just combine and serve right away!
- Keep in mind this is a spicier dish. If you would prefer to tone the heat down a little bit, you can lessen the amount of chili flakes or cayenne pepper.
- Add a protein. Bulk your meal up with the addition of cooked tofu, chicken, beef, pork, or even shrimp.
- Add veggies. Take the nutrition up a notch and mix in your favorite cooked veggies. Try bell peppers, onion, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, zucchini, you name it.
- If you do add extra toppings, keep in mind that you may need extra sauce to cover everything.
- Note: These are oily! They are intended to be so. If you want them less oily, add more noodles!
Serving Suggestions
These chili oil noodles are delicious hot or cold! If you’re serving them hot, simply combine the cooked pasta and sauce and serve. If you’re serving them cold, rinse the noodles in cold water, then make and add the sauce.
Want to serve two or more? Make more pasta and potentially double the oil sauce!
These chili noodles are incredible on their own, but I also love to serve them as a side dish next to Asian Glazed Salmon, My Go-To 10-Minute Sautéed Shrimp, The Juiciest Air Fryer Chicken Breast, or Air Fryer Salmon!
If making a meal with a protein, considering whipping up a side of Easy Stir Fry Veggies or Air Fryer Broccoli!
How to Store
Chili noodles are best right away, but leftovers will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
To reheat, warm in the microwave or on the stove with a drizzle of oil until heated through.
