Restaurant-Inspired Hibachi Ginger Sauce
My family loves hibachi restaurants, and lately we’ve been having a lot of fun making hibachi chicken and vegetables and hibachi fried rice at home. So, of course, I had to complete the experience with a DIY version of the dipping sauce found at our local Benihana restaurant, too.
It truly takes the entire meal over the top, and I couldn’t believe how easy it is to make! I swear I could drink it on its own. I’ve been making a large batch for my weekly meal prep and using it on everything from my frozen veggie fried rice to my Asian noodle salad, steak, shrimp, veggies, and more. It’s the easiest way to elevate whatever I’m eating and truly never gets old!

Ingredients and Notes

- Fresh Ginger Root: Freshly grated ginger is best. I don’t recommend ground ginger, because the flavor is not nearly as strong.
- Garlic: Use fresh garlic cloves that are chopped. Make sure to mince them finely if you’re whisking the sauce by hand!
- Coconut Aminos: A soy-free and gluten-free alternative to soy sauce, this adds amazing depth, giving the sauce a salty, umami taste. Tamari can be used as a substitute. Or, if soy or gluten isn’t a concern, low-sodium soy sauce also works.
- Lemon Juice and Rice Vinegar: The acidity adds brightness, and the rice vinegar adds just a hint of sweetness for a well-rounded flavor.
How to Make the Best Hibachi Ginger Sauce Recipe
- Combine ingredients: Whisk or blend all the ingredients in a small bowl or high-speed blender or food processor until well combined. Taste and adjust as needed. Some people like to add a dash of brown sugar for a sweeter taste. You do you!
- Rest: Let the sauce rest at room temperature for a few minutes. This allows the flavors to meld and enhance. Then, enjoy immediately with all your favorite meals!

Kitchen Tools I Use
How to Store
Once combined, transfer leftover hibachi ginger sauce to an airtight container. I find it tastes even better the next day! Leftover sauce will keep fresh in the fridge for up to 7 days or in the freezer for up to 3-4 months.
If freezing, I like to portion the sauce in an ice cube tray and freeze it until solid before transferring the cubes to a sealable bag or airtight container. Then, I have pre-portioned cubes that are easy to thaw and use!
