These Garlicky Blistered Green Beans are crispy, full of bold garlicky flavor, and cooked until tender. An easy, one-pan side dish, they’re perfect for everything from weeknight meals to holiday dinners!
Made with just five ingredients in a large skillet, these garlicky green beans are not only nutritious but also gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, Paleo, and Whole30, too!
The BEST Garlicky Blistered Green Beans
Originally a recipe from my cookbook, these green beans turned out too delicious not to share with all of you! Initially, I created the recipe with the holiday season in mind, planning to serve it in place of my green bean casserole. However, it was such a hit that it has since turned into a once-a-week type of side dish for my family!
There’s just something about the tender texture and bold, garlicky flavor that always hits the spot. Even my kids love it! As if the flavor isn’t enough, it starts on the stovetop and finishes in the oven for a fairly hands-off recipe that leaves you free to finish up the rest of your meal.
Try it for yourself, and I can pretty much guarantee it will become a staple in both your weekday and holiday lineup!
Ingredients Needed and Substitutions

- Ghee: I love to use ghee because it offers a similar flavor to butter with a boost of health benefits. However, if preferred you can use unsalted butter or olive oil to keep this recipe dairy-free.
- Garlic: Make sure to use whole garlic cloves, not pre-minced varieties!
- Green Beans: Use fresh green beans that are bright green in color and free from discoloration or bad spots.
- Fine Sea Salt and Ground Black Pepper: Adjust to taste.
Preparing Green Beans
Before I begin, I like to wash and trim my green beans. Once clean, simply snap them, or use a sharp knife to slide off the ends.
How to Make This Garlicky Blistered Green Beans Recipe
- Heat: Add the ghee to a large oven-safe skillet, and let it melt over medium heat.
- Sauté: Add the garlic, and sauté until fragrant, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Then, add the green beans, and continue to sauté, mixing frequently, until they’re fork-tender.
- Season: Sprinkle the green beans with salt and pepper to taste.
- Broil: Place an oven rack in the center of the oven, and turn the broiler to high. Place the skillet in the oven, and broil until the green beans are slightly crispy and browned. Be careful not to let them burn!
Kitchen Tools I Use
FAQs
Stored in an airtight container, leftover garlicky green beans will stay fresh in the fridge for 1-2 days.
I don’t recommend it! They’re likely to become soggy once thawed.
One of the best things about this recipe is that it pairs well with pretty much any side dish! Some of my favorite options include roasted turkey, air fryer chicken, balsamic roasted pork chops, and Dijon salmon, but you really can’t go wrong.
Feel free to add a splash of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, parmesan cheese, or even a dash of red pepper flakes!

10/10. These were such a hit at Thanksgiving this year! Thanks Lexi for another great recipe.
These green beans are EVERYTHING. They seem so simple, yet they’re freaking to die for. My husband said to make sure this recipe is saved!
Very yummy–just what I was looking for! In step 2, don’t you mean fragrant and not flagrant?
Delicious! Another great recipe, thank you Lexi!
Last night was my first time to use this recipe and my husband declared these green beans his favorite. So quick and easy. Thanks, Lexi!
Hi, Lexi! This recipe looks great! Would I need to do anything differently if I were using frozen green beans? Costco sells nice organic French green beans that are so convenient to have on hand when green beans are out of season. Thanks for any input!
That will work!
Just to to flavor profile I replace some of the butter with fresh bacon grease. Then once blistered top with crispy crumbled bacon. Have also done a mix of green beans and asparagus.
This side dish is perfect for the holidays AND every day after!!
