The BEST Garlicky Blistered Green Beans

Originally a recipe from my cookbook, these green beans turned out too delicious not to share with all of you! Initially, I created the recipe with the holiday season in mind, planning to serve it in place of my green bean casserole. However, it was such a hit that it has since turned into a once-a-week type of side dish for my family!

There’s just something about the tender texture and bold, garlicky flavor that always hits the spot. Even my kids love it! As if the flavor isn’t enough, it starts on the stovetop and finishes in the oven for a fairly hands-off recipe that leaves you free to finish up the rest of your meal.

Try it for yourself, and I can pretty much guarantee it will become a staple in both your weekday and holiday lineup!

  • Ghee: I love to use ghee because it offers a similar flavor to butter with a boost of health benefits. However, if preferred you can use unsalted butter or olive oil to keep this recipe dairy-free.
  • Garlic: Make sure to use whole garlic cloves, not pre-minced varieties!
  • Green Beans: Use fresh green beans that are bright green in color and free from discoloration or bad spots.
  • Fine Sea Salt and Ground Black Pepper: Adjust to taste.

Preparing Green Beans

Before I begin, I like to wash and trim my green beans. Once clean, simply snap them, or use a sharp knife to slide off the ends.

How to Make This Garlicky Blistered Green Beans Recipe

  1. Heat: Add the ghee to a large oven-safe skillet, and let it melt over medium heat.
  2. Sauté: Add the garlic, and sauté until fragrant, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Then, add the green beans, and continue to sauté, mixing frequently, until they’re fork-tender.
  3. Season: Sprinkle the green beans with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Broil: Place an oven rack in the center of the oven, and turn the broiler to high. Place the skillet in the oven, and broil until the green beans are slightly crispy and browned. Be careful not to let them burn!

FAQs

How long do blistered green beans last?

Stored in an airtight container, leftover garlicky green beans will stay fresh in the fridge for 1-2 days.

Can I freeze leftovers?

I don’t recommend it! They’re likely to become soggy once thawed.

What should I serve with this garlic green beans recipe?

One of the best things about this recipe is that it pairs well with pretty much any side dish! Some of my favorite options include roasted turkey, air fryer chicken, balsamic roasted pork chops, and Dijon salmon, but you really can’t go wrong.

How can I add more flavor to my green beans?

Feel free to add a splash of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, parmesan cheese, or even a dash of red pepper flakes!

Last night was my first time to use this recipe and my husband declared these green beans his favorite. So quick and easy. Thanks, Lexi!

  3. Hi, Lexi! This recipe looks great! Would I need to do anything differently if I were using frozen green beans? Costco sells nice organic French green beans that are so convenient to have on hand when green beans are out of season. Thanks for any input!

  4. Just to to flavor profile I replace some of the butter with fresh bacon grease. Then once blistered top with crispy crumbled bacon. Have also done a mix of green beans and asparagus.
